The breed is named Border Collie because it is considered to have been originated from Anglo-Scottish border. Their origin can also be related to a breed known as Old Hemp. In 1915, the breed’s name was first used by James Reid, who was the Secretary of the International Sheep Dog Society (ISDS) in UK. The naming distinguished Border Coolie from other breeds such as rough coolie, smooth coolie, or Scotch coolie.
